**New Delhi, November 1, 2024** – Eminent Indian economist and chairman of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council (EAC-PM), Bibek Debroy, passed away at the age of 69. Debroy, known for his extensive contributions to economic policy and research in India, breathed his last at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi. He was admitted to the emergency department the previous night and succumbed to subacute intestinal obstruction.

Debroy’s career was marked by profound achievements in economics, history, and literature. He translated the epic Mahabharata into English in a notable ten-volume work and was a distinguished Sanskrit scholar, translating ancient texts like the Bhagavad Gita and various Puranas.
