**Chennai, November 2, 2024:** M. Rajendran, former Vice Chancellor of Tamil University, has been elected president of the Tamil Development Academy (TDA). The election took place at a meeting of the TDA’s executive and general council in Chennai on October 24.

Established in 1946 by former Education Minister T.S. Avinashilingam Chettiar, the TDA has a rich history of promoting Tamil language and culture. The organization has published numerous works, including 10 volumes of a Tamil encyclopedia, 10 volumes on children’s literature, 13 volumes on medicine, and 7 volumes on Siddha medicine.

Rajendran succeeds a distinguished line of leaders, including former Union Education and Finance Minister C. Subramaniam, former Vice Chancellor of Anna, Madurai Kamaraj, and Indira Gandhi National Open Universities V.C. Kulandaiswamy, and former Vice Chancellor of Bharathidasan University M. Ponnavaikko.

Rajendran’s election marks a new chapter for the TDA, and his experience in higher education is expected to be invaluable in guiding the organization’s future endeavors.
