Sat Nov 02 12:33:47 UTC 2024: ## Delhi Suffers Worst Diwali Air Pollution in Three Years, Despite Appeals to Avoid Fireworks

**New Delhi:** Despite appeals from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi to refrain from bursting firecrackers this Diwali, the city witnessed rampant fireworks leading to a surge in pollution levels, making it the world’s most polluted capital.

While air quality remained relatively good until 6-7 pm on Diwali, it began to deteriorate rapidly after 8 pm, with the heavy use of fireworks being the primary culprit. This year’s Diwali marks the worst air quality recorded in the last three years, with data reflecting the alarming situation.

In an effort to combat the crisis, the Delhi Environment Minister flagged off 200 mobile anti-smog guns. However, the effectiveness of these measures remains to be seen.

Adding to the woes, Delhi experienced an unusually hot October, breaking a 73-year-old temperature record, with temperatures exceeding 35 degrees Celsius.

The alarming pollution levels and record-breaking temperatures raise concerns about the long-term health implications for Delhi residents and highlight the urgent need for effective measures to curb pollution and protect the environment.
