**Kanpur, India** – The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK) will celebrate its 65th Foundation Day today, with Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh gracing the occasion as the chief guest.
The celebration will see the institute honoring 18 of its distinguished alumni with prestigious awards. The ceremony will recognize outstanding contributions in various fields with the Distinguished Alumnus Awards, acknowledge support for the institute’s growth and mission through the Distinguished Service Awards, and celebrate notable achievements early in careers with the Young Alumnus Awards. Additionally, three Institute Fellow Awards will be bestowed upon faculty members for their significant contributions to IITK’s development.
Founded in 1959, IIT Kanpur holds the distinction of being an Institute of National Importance, recognized by the Government of India through an Act of Parliament. Renowned for its science and engineering education, the institute has consistently made significant contributions to research and development. Spreading across 1,050 acres, IITK boasts an impressive range of academic and research facilities, including 19 departments, 26 centers, three interdisciplinary programs, and two specialized schools covering various disciplines. The institute currently has over 590 faculty members and a vibrant community of more than 9,500 students.
Recently, IITK launched the Fellowship for Academic and Research Excellence (FARE) program, a testament to its commitment to fostering exceptional talent. This fellowship is designed to recognize and support PhD students exhibiting outstanding academic and research capabilities, aiming to encourage timely completion of doctoral studies and promote high-quality research output. The fellowship provides financial support for up to 12 months, including a stipend equivalent to that of the institute’s Post-Doctoral fellows and additional research-related grants.
