Northern Utah is bracing for a chilly spell starting Monday night into Tuesday, with rain and temperatures near freezing expected. The National Weather Service predicts a cold front to move across the Wasatch Front on Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning, bringing a 20% chance of rain Monday afternoon and a high probability (80%) of rain Monday night into Tuesday morning.
The low temperature on Monday night and Tuesday morning is forecast to be around 36 degrees. Some areas along the Wasatch Front may see snow early Tuesday morning, transitioning to rain after 9 a.m. Tuesday’s high is expected to be near 45 degrees, a significant drop from Monday’s high.
Mountain areas and the Wasatch Back may see snow on Tuesday and Wednesday. The cold snap will persist for a couple of days, with a 20% chance of rain early Wednesday and a slight chance of rain on Thursday night – Halloween – and Friday morning.
The weather service predicts highs of 49 on Wednesday and 53 on Thursday. Low temperatures will dip to 33 on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, and 37 on Halloween night. Although winds will pick up on Thursday night, they are not expected to be strong enough to warrant headlines.
The weekend will see highs in the low 50s and lows in the mid-30s. Overall, temperatures this week will be 10 to 20 degrees cooler than usual for the last week of October.
