Sun Oct 27 09:20:10 UTC 2024: ## Local Teenager Makes Dream Come True, Secures Spot on Sydney Sixers WBBL Roster
**Newcastle, NSW** – 15-year-old Caoimhe Bray from Adamstown has secured a spot on the Sydney Sixers’ roster for the upcoming Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) season. Bray, a rising star in both cricket and soccer, joins her idol Ellyse Perry, Australian captain Alyssa Healy, and all-rounder Ash Gardner on the team.
Bray’s selection marks the culmination of an impressive five months. She shone as the Junior Matildas’ first-choice goalkeeper at the AFC under-17 Women’s Asian Cup in Bali, followed by a strong performance in the Australian under-19 cricket tri-series. Bray then impressed in the inaugural T20 Spring Challenge, earning her spot on the Sixers’ roster.
Her impressive performance in the Spring Challenge, including five wickets, caught the eye of the Sydney Sixers. “We’ve seen Caoimhe’s growth, rising through the NSW pathway ranks and, more recently, how seamlessly she slotted into our group during the Spring Challenge,” said Sixers general manager Rachael Haynes. “We have no doubt she’ll grab this next opportunity with both hands.”
Bray, who is currently a year-nine student at St Pius X High School, remains grounded despite her achievements. “I’m just hoping for development,” she stated. “It’s more just getting the most out of training and those elite players like Ellyse Perry and the coaches that we have to make me into the best cricketer that I can be.”
Bray’s success story is an inspiration to young athletes everywhere. Her journey through the NSW pathway ranks, combined with her impressive skills in both cricket and soccer, showcases her dedication and commitment.
The WBBL season kicks off on Sunday with the Sixers facing the Melbourne Renegades in Adelaide. While Healy will miss the opening match due to injury, Bray is eager to make her mark on the national T20 competition.
