Thu Oct 17 03:00:47 UTC 2024: ## Rain Plays Spoilsport in Bengaluru Test, First Day Washed Out

**Bengaluru:** The first day of the much-anticipated Test match between India and New Zealand in Bengaluru was washed out due to persistent rain. The weather gods, who had earlier disrupted the second Test against Bangladesh, decided to play another trick on the fans, preventing even the toss from happening.

While the weather forecast predicted no rain at the time of the toss (8:45 AM), a drizzle is expected between 11 AM and 1 PM. The ground needs at least an hour to be ready for play, leaving a narrow window for the match to start. The presence of a sub-air system offers some hope for a quick turnaround.

Despite a brief respite from the rain, the outfield remained too wet for play. Covers were removed and preparations made, only to be interrupted by another drizzle. As a result, the umpires decided to call off the day after the second session.

The rain also posed a hurdle for setting up the DRS technology. Former selector Saba Karim highlighted the need for updating and installing the technology, which was hindered by the weather. He indicated that it would take at least 90 minutes to install the Hawk-Eye system if the rain subsides.

The organizers have planned to play 98 overs in the day, with the revised schedule: 9:15 AM to 11:30 AM for the first session, 12:10 PM to 2:25 PM for the second, and 2:45 PM to 4:45 PM for the final session.

Fans are now anxiously awaiting the weather update and hoping for a better day tomorrow, allowing the first Test match to commence.
