**Vienna, Austria** – A 20-year-old Swiss national has been identified as a suspect in a string of bomb threats targeting various institutions across Austria, including train stations, schools, and shopping centers. The threats, delivered via email, began on September 30th and have led to numerous police operations and evacuations.
The Austrian Ministry of the Interior announced on Monday that the suspect was identified through an investigation conducted by the Austrian state security service in cooperation with the public prosecutor’s offices in Graz and Linz. A European arrest warrant has been issued for the Swiss citizen, who remains at large in his home country.
The Austrian authorities have declined to specify how many of the 27 bomb threats the Swiss national is believed to be responsible for. However, the threats have impacted numerous train journeys, with around 450 trains and thousands of passengers affected by the first five threats alone.
The Swiss security and judicial authorities are also involved in the investigation, and the European arrest warrant has been forwarded to them for examination and enforcement. The Austrian Ministry of the Interior stated that this process could take several weeks, and further clarification regarding the background of the threats is required.
