Wed Oct 16 12:00:00 UTC 2024: ## Sabarimala Virtual Queue Booking Limits Raise Concerns
**Thiruvananthapuram, October 16, 2024:** Despite the launch of the virtual queue booking system for Sabarimala pilgrimage, only 70,000 bookings are being allowed per day, a significant reduction from the initially announced 80,000. This has raised concerns about the availability of spot bookings for those unable to secure a slot through the virtual queue.
The Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) has not yet clarified whether the remaining 10,000 spots will be allotted through spot bookings, which were previously planned to accommodate those who couldn’t secure a virtual queue slot. The lack of clarity has left many devotees in a state of uncertainty.
The virtual queue system, which was implemented last year, also saw a limit of 70,000 bookings per day. The TDB officials have declined to comment on the reduced quota.
The decision to allow only virtual queue bookings was made by a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, despite opposition from certain quarters. Following protests, the government assured that darshan would be ensured for everyone. However, the absence of information on spot bookings has fueled concerns, especially as the Chief Minister had hinted at the possibility of spot booking arrangements during the Mandal-Makaravilakku pilgrimage season.
The Chief Minister, while responding to a submission by V. Joy in the Legislative Assembly, had clarified that the government would ensure smooth darshan for pilgrims, even those who haven’t registered online or are unaware of the system. He did not explicitly mention spot bookings but emphasized a facilitated experience for all.
The decision to limit virtual queue bookings and the uncertainty surrounding spot bookings have generated widespread concern among devotees planning their pilgrimage. The TDB is yet to issue a definitive statement on the matter.
