**MUMBAI:** The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the schedule for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections, with voting set for November 20th and results declared on November 23rd. The notification for the polls will be issued on October 22nd, with the last date for nominations set for October 29th and the last date for withdrawal of candidatures being October 30th.
The 2019 Assembly polls saw the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), contesting with the Shiv Sena, emerge as the single largest party with 105 seats. Shiv Sena won 56 seats, while the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) saw a resurgence with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) winning 54 seats and the Congress securing 44.
The 2024 Lok Sabha elections witnessed the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) – comprising the Congress, Uddhav Thackeray’s faction of Shiv Sena (UBT), and Sharad Pawar’s NCP – securing a majority of seats in Maharashtra with 30 out of 48 seats. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the BJP, Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena faction, and Ajit Pawar’s NCP, won 17 seats.
