Mon Oct 14 10:02:33 UTC 2024: ## Alia Bhatt’s ‘Jigra’ Stumbles at Box Office, Facing Stiff Competition

Despite a modest increase in earnings on Saturday, Alia Bhatt’s action drama ‘Jigra’ failed to meet expectations over the weekend, earning only Rs 16.75 crore in its first three days of release in India. While the film saw a 43% rise in earnings on Saturday, Sunday’s collection fell short, resulting in a total that falls below the anticipated Rs 20 crore mark.

The film faces stiff competition from Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri’s ‘Vicky Aur Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video’, which released on the same day and has already surpassed ‘Jigra’ in domestic earnings, currently standing at Rs 18.65 crore.

‘Jigra’, co-produced by Alia Bhatt and Karan Johar, has received mixed reviews and has been shrouded in controversy. Recently, singer Divya Khosla Kumar accused the film’s team of inflating box office numbers, leading to a cryptic response from Karan Johar.

The film’s performance is underwhelming compared to Alia Bhatt’s previous successful female-centric films like ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ and ‘Raazi’. ‘Jigra’ has also failed to reach the success of Bhatt and Johar’s last collaboration, ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’.

While ‘Jigra’ has seen a decent occupancy rate in certain cities like Chennai and Bengaluru, its overall performance remains below par. The film continues to face an uphill battle against its competitor and the weight of negative reviews and controversy.
