Mon Oct 14 10:02:32 UTC 2024: ## Alia Bhatt’s ‘Jigra’ Flops at Box Office, Fails to Match Previous Successes

Alia Bhatt’s latest release, ‘Jigra’, has had a disastrous start at the box office, registering her worst opening in ten years. The film, directed by Vasan Bala, has collected a meager ₹16.75 crore after three days of release, falling short of the ₹20 crore mark.

The film, which sees Alia playing a young woman determined to save her brother from a foreign prison, has faced stiff competition from ‘Vicky Aur Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video’, starring Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri, which has garnered ₹17.84 crore in the same period.

‘Jigra’s’ disappointing performance comes as a surprise, considering Alia’s track record of delivering box office hits with female-centric films like ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’, ‘Raazi’ and ‘Udta Punjab’. Her previous release, ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani’, had a strong opening weekend, collecting ₹19 crore.

The film has also been plagued by controversy, with actor Divya Khossla Kumar alleging that Alia misrepresented the film’s success. While Alia remained silent, Karan Johar, who co-produced the film, responded with a cryptic Instagram post.

‘Jigra’, starring Vedang Raina, Manoj Pahwa and Rahul Ravindran alongside Alia, is an action-thriller that follows Satya Anand’s fight to free her brother Ankur from a death sentence.

Despite its star-studded cast and high-octane premise, ‘Jigra’ has failed to resonate with audiences, marking a setback for Alia’s career and raising concerns about its future performance at the box office.
