Mon Oct 14 11:15:10 UTC 2024: ## Hindu Group Warns of Retaliation After Bahraich Violence

**Bahraich, India:** The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has issued a stark warning to the Muslim community following the violent death of a young man, Ram Gopal Mishra, during Durga idol immersion in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh.

The incident, which occurred on Sunday in the Rehua Mansur village, saw Mishra shot dead by a mob after a dispute arose over a DJ being played near a religious site.

Dr. Surendra Jain, joint general secretary of the VHP, expressed deep concern over the growing trend of attacks on Hindu religious processions and festivals across the country. He cited similar incidents involving attacks on shobha yatras, garba pandals, and Ganesh pujan celebrations, attributing the unrest to a growing intolerance towards Hindu festivals.

Jain condemned the attempt to justify the killing and shield the perpetrators, calling it a matter of serious introspection for the Muslim community.

He warned of severe consequences if Hindu communities across the nation retaliated with similar hostility, suggesting the possibility of blocking religious processions led by Muslims in Hindu-majority areas.

The VHP leader urged for a change in mindset and appealed for peaceful co-existence, emphasizing that escalating tensions could lead to disastrous repercussions.

Following the incident, widespread protests and arson erupted, leading to police action and a heavy security presence in the affected area. The police have initiated investigations and apprehended suspects.

The incident has once again highlighted the fragile communal harmony in the country and the need for immediate steps to prevent further escalation of violence.
