**Chennai, India** – In anticipation of heavy rainfall predicted for the next four days, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has declared a holiday for schools and colleges in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Chengalpattu districts on October 15th. The decision follows an orange alert issued by the Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai, forecasting heavy rain spells on October 15th and 16th.
To mitigate potential disruptions, the Chief Minister also directed IT companies in the four districts to allow employees to work from home from October 15th to 18th.
The Chennai city police are prepared with 300 specially trained armed reserve police personnel deployed to low-lying areas. A temporary control room has been established to coordinate efforts with the Greater Chennai Corporation and fire service departments.
In addition, the 108 Emergency Medical Services (EMRI) has set up a second control center in Pudukottai, ensuring continuous emergency medical response.
This comes as the Chennai municipal body has already purchased 36 boats as a precautionary measure ahead of the monsoon season.
