Sat Oct 12 18:40:00 UTC 2024: ## Guardians Break Scoring Drought, Thomas Delivers RBI Single in Game 4 Against Tigers
DETROIT (AP) – The Cleveland Guardians finally broke their 20-inning scoreless streak in the first inning of Game 4 of the AL Division Series against the Detroit Tigers on Thursday night. Lane Thomas delivered an RBI single to score Steven Kwan, who led off the inning with a single, extending his postseason hitting streak to nine games.
Kwan’s single tied him with Tony Fernandez for second place on the franchise’s postseason hitting streak list, trailing only Kenny Lofton’s 10-game streak in 1995.
The Guardians had been shut out in the previous two games, allowing the Tigers to even the series at 2-2. Cleveland won the series opener 7-0 thanks to Thomas’ three-run homer in the first inning.
Detroit’s Reese Olson, who had not allowed a run in the first inning of any of his 22 regular season starts, struggled early, giving up the RBI single to Thomas.
The Guardians now have a chance to extend the series and force a Game 5 back in Cleveland on Saturday. If they lose, the Tigers will advance to the AL Championship Series for the first time since 2013.
