**Mumbai:** Baba Siddiqui, a prominent NCP leader and a close confidante of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, was shot dead in Mumbai on Saturday night. The incident occurred in the Bandra East area, where the assailants fired multiple rounds at Siddiqui, hitting him in the chest and abdomen. He was rushed to Lilavati Hospital but was declared dead by the doctors.
The Mumbai Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the murder. One suspect is from Uttar Pradesh, while the other is from Haryana. A third suspect is still at large. The police are investigating the possibility of a contract killing and are looking into the motive behind the murder.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde expressed his condolences and assured strict action against the perpetrators. “The incident of firing at Baba Siddiqui is deeply disturbing and unfortunate,” he said. “I have spoken to the Commissioner and the doctor in this regard. Two people have been arrested, one from UP and the other from Haryana, and the third accused is absconding. I have instructed the police to ensure that law and order is not taken lightly. They have been given strict instructions to take strict action.”
Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also visited the hospital after the incident. Following the tragic news, Ajit Pawar canceled all his public appearances.
Siddiqui was known for his grand Iftar parties, which were attended by several Bollywood celebrities, including Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan. He was a popular figure in Mumbai and had recently joined the NCP after leaving the Congress earlier this year.
The Mumbai Police have released images of the suspects and are appealing to the public for any information that could lead to the arrest of the remaining accused.
