**Mumbai, India** – Senior NCP leader Baba Siddiqui was shot dead in Mumbai late Saturday night in what appears to be a targeted attack. He was reportedly shot multiple times in the chest and abdomen while visiting his son’s office in Bandra East.
Siddiqui, a former MLA from Bandra West and former state minister in Maharashtra, was rushed to Lilavati Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Police have swiftly apprehended three individuals in connection with the murder. The suspects are reportedly from Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, with one still at large.
Authorities are investigating a possible “supari killing” angle, where the murder was ordered for a price.
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation from political leaders across the spectrum.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis visited the hospital following the incident. He also assured the public that the police will be taking strict action against the perpetrators.
“This is a highly unfortunate event and I have spoken to the doctors and police,” said Fadnavis. “Two people have been arrested and the third accused is absconding. We have instructed the Mumbai Police to take strict action against those who take the law into their hands… I am confident that the Mumbai Police will soon arrest the third accused. Strict action will be taken against the accused.”
Other leaders, including Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, BJP leader Kirit Somaiya, and Congress leader Priyanka Chaturvedi, all expressed their grief and outrage, calling for a thorough investigation and justice for Siddiqui and his family.
The incident has raised concerns about the escalating violence and lawlessness in the city, with many calling for stronger security measures and a swift resolution to the case.
