Fri Oct 11 12:10:00 UTC 2024: ## Disney World Guests Ride Out Hurricane Milton in Comfort, Resort Offers Discounts
A Disney-loving family from Arizona weathered Hurricane Milton’s wrath from the comfort of their Disney World resort room, as the theme park offered partial compensation amidst the destructive and deadly storm.
Sandra Guadarrama-Baumunk and her family, including her husband and two daughters, had flown to Orlando for their annual Disney vacation just days before Milton made landfall. Despite the approaching storm, the family remained optimistic, choosing to stay at the resort, believing it to be a safe haven.
While the park closed Wednesday afternoon, the family enjoyed the resort’s amenities, including crafts, s’mores, and games. They even dined at the resort’s restaurants, which offered discounted menus due to the storm.
Though the storm caused some anxiety, the family reported only minor inconveniences, such as a brief fire alarm evacuation and some wind and rain. They found the Disney staff to be calm and reassuring throughout the ordeal.
As a gesture of hurricane relief, Disney offered the family a 40% discount on their rooms, extending their stay for an extra day.
While the Guadarrama-Baumunks were fortunate to experience minimal disruption, Hurricane Milton caused significant damage across Florida, leaving 17 dead and thousands without power. The storm’s impact included widespread flooding, downed trees, and a tornado outbreak that flattened mobile home parks.
Despite the storm, Disney World is expected to reopen to guests on Friday.
