**Hyderabad, India:** Indian Cricketer Mohammed Siraj has officially taken charge as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Telangana, joining the ranks of the state police force. He reported to the Director General of Police (DGP) on Friday, marking a significant moment in his career.
Siraj, who was a part of India’s victorious T20 World Cup team, was welcomed by MP M. Anil Kumar Yadav and MP and Chairman of TGMREIS, Mohammed Fahimuddin Qureshi.
Earlier this year, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had announced that the speedster would be awarded a prestigious Group 1 government job. Siraj’s appointment comes after a grand welcome in Hyderabad, where he was greeted with a celebratory procession upon his return from the T20 World Cup triumph.
The 30-year-old cricketer has claimed 163 international wickets in 29 Tests, 44 ODIs, and 16 T20 matches. His career-best bowling figures include 6-15 in Tests and 6-21 in ODIs.
Siraj’s journey from an auto-rickshaw driver’s son in Hyderabad to a celebrated Indian cricketer is remarkable. He started playing cricket at the age of 7, made his bowling debut in 2015, and was signed by Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for a whopping ₹2.6 crores in 2017. He made his T20 debut for India just a month later against New Zealand.
His impressive performance in the Test series against Bangladesh, where he picked up four wickets, has solidified his position in the national team. Siraj is now gearing up for the upcoming three-match Test series against New Zealand. He is also hoping to make a mark in the series as he aims to secure a place in the playing eleven for the upcoming tour of Australia.
This move into law enforcement marks a new chapter for Siraj, as he balances his sporting career with his commitment to public service.
