Fri Oct 11 15:18:21 UTC 2024: ## Air India Express Flight Makes Emergency Landing at Trichy Airport After Hydraulic Failure
**Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu:** An Air India Express flight bound for Sharjah from Tiruchirappalli (Trichy) airport made an emergency landing on Friday evening after experiencing a hydraulic failure mid-air. The flight, carrying 140 passengers, took off at 5.43 pm but soon reported the technical snag, prompting the pilot to alert the air station.
The aircraft circled over Trichy airspace for a period of time before landing safely at the airport. Initially, the airport prepared for a belly landing, a procedure where a plane lands without its landing gear. However, the landing gear eventually deployed, allowing for a normal landing.
Fuel dumping was considered as a measure to lighten the aircraft, but was ruled out due to the flight circling over residential areas. As a precaution, ambulances and rescue teams were on standby at the airport. Videos from the airport captured the cheers of onlookers as the flight landed safely.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation confirmed the safe landing, stating that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) was monitoring the situation and that the landing gear was functional.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin commended the captain and crew for their safe handling of the emergency, noting the swift response and coordination of the relevant authorities. He also directed the District Collector to ensure the safety and well-being of the passengers and to provide necessary assistance.
