Tue Oct 08 05:11:07 UTC 2024: ## BJP Leads in Haryana, Congress-NC Alliance Ahead in J&K: Assembly Election Results

**Chandigarh, New Delhi:** Early trends in the Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir Assembly election results are showing unexpected turns. While the BJP is leading towards a record third term in Haryana, defying exit poll predictions, the Congress-National Conference alliance has taken a commanding lead in Jammu & Kashmir.

In Haryana, the BJP is currently leading in 47 out of 90 seats, crossing the majority mark of 46. The Congress, despite a strong initial showing, is now leading in 34 seats. Regional parties like the INLD and JJP are lagging behind.

The Congress appears to be benefiting from a shift in vote share from these regional parties, while the BJP seems to be retaining its core vote base.

In Jammu & Kashmir, where elections were held for the first time in a decade, the Congress-NC alliance is leading in 49 seats, compared to the BJP’s 23. This comes as a surprise, as most exit polls predicted a close race.

The possibility of a hung assembly has raised concerns among opposition parties, as the five Lieutenant Governor-nominated MLAs could play a crucial role in government formation.

Key candidates in Haryana include Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda, who is leading in Garhi Sampla-Kiloi, wrestler and Congress candidate Vinesh Phogat, who is leading in Julana, and Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, who is ahead in Ladwa. In Jammu & Kashmir, former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is leading in both Ganderbal and Budgam.

These results will be closely watched as they reflect the changing political landscape in both states, and could have national implications.
