**Panaji:** Protests erupted across Goa over the weekend, demanding the arrest of former RSS leader Subhash Velinkar. The protests were sparked by Velinkar’s controversial remarks about the Saint Francis Xavier’s relics during a public event last week.
Velinkar’s suggestion that DNA testing should be conducted on the relics has been widely condemned as offensive and insulting to the Christian community. Angry protesters took to the streets on Saturday, staging a massive rally and marching to police stations in Madgaon.
The protests intensified on Sunday, with protestors blockading 12 police stations across the state. Police were forced to use force to disperse crowds in some areas, resulting in injuries to a few. Protesters also blocked national highways in various locations.
