**New Delhi, India** – Ahead of his trip to Pakistan for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit, Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar has accused Pakistan of sponsoring terrorism in South Asia. Speaking at an event, Dr. Jaishankar stated that the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) has been paralyzed due to Pakistan’s engagement in cross-border terrorism against other member states.
Dr. Jaishankar highlighted that this ongoing threat has prevented SAARC meetings from taking place in recent years, emphasizing that terrorism is universally unacceptable. Despite these challenges, the Minister asserted that regional integration in the Indian subcontinent has seen significant progress over the past five to six years.
His remarks signal India’s unwavering stance against terrorism, while simultaneously reaffirming its commitment to regional cooperation. Dr. Jaishankar’s criticism of Pakistan comes at a time when the two nations have been experiencing heightened tensions over the Kashmir issue.
The upcoming SCO Summit in Pakistan is expected to be a platform for dialogue and potential cooperation between India and Pakistan. However, Dr. Jaishankar’s strong condemnation of Pakistan’s alleged sponsorship of terrorism raises questions about the possibility of meaningful progress in bilateral relations during the summit.
