Mon Oct 07 02:32:13 UTC 2024: ## Bangladesh and India to Maintain Good Working Relations Despite Tensions
**New York, NY** – Amidst heightened tensions between Bangladesh and India, Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs Advisor, Mohammed Touhid Hossain, has assured that both countries are committed to maintaining good working relations. Hossain met with India’s External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, where they discussed the importance of bilateral cooperation.
Hossain stated that the discussion was “free and fair” and emphasized that both countries recognize the need for strong working relationships. While the issue of former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is currently seeking refuge in India, was not discussed, Hossain emphasized that trade and ongoing projects will continue as usual, despite some ongoing visa issues.
“We have a lot of commonalities as well as a lot of complimentary interests. I think the bilateral relations, particular relations will continue normally,” Hossain stated. He also acknowledged the importance of people-to-people contact and highlighted that despite some delays in visa processing, Bangladesh’s visa offices in India are issuing visas for those seeking to travel to Bangladesh.
The recent ban on the export of Hilsa fish to India, imposed by Bangladesh ahead of Durga Puja celebrations, did not affect the overall discussion on the future of bilateral relations. Hossain reiterated the importance of continued cooperation between the two countries, stating that both recognize the need for mutual support.
Despite the current political situation, the meetings between the two officials indicate a commitment to maintain healthy working relations between Bangladesh and India. This focus on collaboration is expected to lead to continued cooperation on issues of mutual interest in the future.
