Wed Oct 02 19:16:15 UTC 2024: ## Shami’s Return Delayed: Knee Injury Sets Back Pace Bowler’s Comeback

**Bengaluru:** Indian pacer Mohammed Shami’s return to the national team has been dealt a significant blow, with a knee injury sustained during his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). The setback could potentially rule him out of the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy, scheduled to begin in November.

Shami, sidelined since the 2023 World Cup, was undergoing rehabilitation for his previous injury, and had begun bowling recently. The recurrence of his knee injury, causing swelling, will keep him on the sidelines for 6-8 weeks.

Sources within the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that Shami had resumed bowling and was preparing for a return to competitive cricket, only to face this setback. The BCCI medical team is evaluating the injury, but it is expected to take some time.

This latest injury comes as a major blow for the NCA medical team, who had been working towards getting Shami back in top shape. Now, the Indian team will have to find ways to compensate for the absence of the experienced pacer during the crucial series against Australia.
