Sun Sep 29 23:55:43 UTC 2024: ## Real Madrid Confident Despite Mbappé Absence for Madrid Derby
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has downplayed the impact of Kylian Mbappé’s absence on Sunday’s Madrid derby against Atlético Madrid. The French forward is expected to be sidelined for three weeks with a thigh injury.
“Obviously without Mbappé, it changes a bit, but not a lot,” Ancelotti said in his pre-match press conference. “We’re used to playing without him.”
Ancelotti confirmed that Real Madrid would not be changing their formation despite Mbappé’s absence, and emphasized his focus on team unity and commitment. “I don’t focus on the system,” he said. “I focus on the team playing for each other, with commitment.”
Atlético manager Diego Simeone highlighted the importance of Toni Kroos’ departure for Real Madrid, believing that his absence will be more significant than Mbappé’s. “I think they’re looking for that player who can give them calm, to make the most of all the offensive power they have,” Simeone said.
Ancelotti confirmed that Eduardo Camavinga has recovered from injury and is available for selection, but did not confirm his starting role.
Both managers acknowledged the importance of learning from last year’s derby, where Atlético secured a surprising 3-1 victory. “Yes, 100%, we have to avoid the mistakes of last year,” Ancelotti stated.
The game promises to be a closely contested affair, with both teams unbeaten this season. Real Madrid currently leads Atlético by two points in the La Liga standings.
