Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, a perennial offensive force, has faced criticism for a relatively quiet start to the 2023 season. Despite the Chiefs’ 3-0 record, Kelce has only recorded eight receptions for 69 yards and no touchdowns through three games.
Rumors linking Kelce’s performance to his relationship with pop icon Taylor Swift have also swirled, but the 34-year-old veteran has brushed aside such speculation, emphasizing his focus on the field. “I think this year stats may say something different, but at the same time, you’ll see the same person inside this building, and that’s all I really care about,” Kelce told the press.
While acknowledging his slow start, Kelce expressed confidence in the Chiefs’ offensive strategy and praised his teammates for stepping up in his absence. Rookie wide receiver Rashee Rice has been a standout, recording 12 catches for 110 yards and a touchdown against the Falcons. Backup tight end Noah Gray also contributed significantly, adding 50 receiving yards, while undrafted running back Carson Steele rushed for 72 yards in Week 3.
“I love the way Rashee’s been playing,” Kelce said. “He’s fun to play with and he’s one of my favourite guys in the building. We put more trust in Noah. It’s great to see him go out there and do the things that he can do and he’s just such a well-rounded player.”
Despite their undefeated record, Kelce recognized that the Chiefs have room for improvement. “We might not be putting up as [many] points as we want to, but at the same time, we’re 3-0 and we’re doing something right,” he stated.
As the Chiefs look to build on their strong start, Kelce remains focused on improving his own performance and silencing the noise surrounding his personal life. He’s determined to remain a key contributor as the Chiefs aim for another successful season.
