**KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 23:** The appeal hearing for former PKR vice-president Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin, who is challenging a Kuala Lumpur High Court ruling ordering her to pay RM10 million to the party for breaching her bond, has been postponed to September 23.
PKR’s counsel Navpreet Singh confirmed the new date via WhatsApp, stating the proceedings will take place at 9am in open court. The High Court ruled in favour of PKR last June, finding the bond a valid and binding contract. The court also ordered Zuraida to pay RM50,000 in legal costs.
The lawsuit was filed by then PKR secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail in September 2020, demanding the RM10 million from Zuraida for allegedly violating the terms of the bond. This bond stipulated a RM10 million payment to PKR if Zuraida won an election on a PKR ticket and subsequently resigned, joined another party, or became an independent representative.
Zuraida defended herself by claiming she was coerced into signing the bond, but the court dismissed this argument. Her appeal, filed in July 2022, aims to overturn the High Court’s decision.
The upcoming hearing on September 23 will determine whether Zuraida will be required to pay the RM10 million penalty to PKR.
