Fri Sep 20 05:02:33 UTC 2024: ## Lebanon Reels from Deadly Explosions as Fears of War Escalate

BEIRUT – Lebanon is once again grappling with a wave of terror, this time triggered by a series of deadly explosions targeting pagers and walkie-talkies across the country. The blasts, widely believed to be orchestrated by Israel, have left at least 37 people dead and over 3,000 injured, bringing back painful memories of the devastating 2020 Beirut port explosion.

The explosions have plunged Lebanon into a state of fear and uncertainty, reminiscent of the trauma experienced after the port blast. Hospitals, already struggling with a crumbling healthcare system, are overwhelmed with victims, many with critical injuries to their faces, eyes, and limbs. Schools and universities have been closed, with parents keeping their children home out of fear.

The incidents have exacerbated existing tensions between Lebanon and Israel, with Hezbollah vowing retaliation against Israel for the attacks. Israel, in turn, has stepped up its rhetoric, threatening a potential military operation against the group. This escalation of conflict comes as Lebanon is already facing an unprecedented economic crisis, political paralysis, and a simmering war with Israel in the Gaza Strip.

The attacks have left many Lebanese feeling desperate and resigned. “I can’t believe this is happening again. How many more disasters can we endure?” asked Jocelyn Hallak, a mother of three. “All this pain, when will it end?”

The explosions have sparked a wave of anger and fear across the country, further deepening the sense of helplessness and despair that has gripped Lebanon for years. With the recent assassination of Hezbollah and Hamas commanders attributed to Israel, the threat of a full-blown war with Israel looms large.

“One more horror shaping our collective existence,” wrote Maha Yahya, director of the Malcolm H. Kerr Carnegie Middle East Center in Beirut. “The shock, the disarray, the trauma is reminiscent of Beirut after the port explosion. Only this time it was not limited to a city but spread across the country.”

As Lebanon once again faces an uncertain future, many are left wondering how much more they can endure. With each new crisis, hope seems to dwindle, leaving a nation already on its knees struggling to find the strength to rise again.
