Fri Sep 20 06:30:34 UTC 2024: ## Allred Edges Out Cruz in New Texas Senate Poll, but Race Remains Tight

**Dallas, TX** – A new poll by Morning Consult has shaken up the Texas Senate race, showing Democratic challenger Colin Allred leading incumbent Republican Ted Cruz by a single point. This marks the first time Allred has been ahead in the race, according to public polling.

The survey, conducted between September 9 and 18, found Allred garnering 45% support, while Cruz received 44%. The margin of error is +/-2 percentage points, meaning the race remains statistically close.

“For the first time in this race, a new poll has us leading Ted Cruz by 1 point,” Allred wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “I don’t know about y’all, but I’m fired up and ready to WIN!”

Despite the narrowing margin, the Cook Political Report still classifies the race as a likely Republican win. However, the latest poll results have sparked concerns among some Republicans, particularly after a string of recent polls showing a shrinking lead for Cruz.

The Cruz campaign has not responded to requests for comment.

Meanwhile, Allred has received a boost from former Republican Representative Liz Cheney, who recently endorsed him in Dallas, citing Cruz’s actions following the 2020 election.

“What Ted Cruz did after the 2020 election makes him clearly unfit for office,” Cheney said, referring to Cruz’s support of efforts to overturn the election results.

Texas has consistently elected Republicans to the Senate since 1990, with Cruz narrowly defeating Beto O’Rourke in 2018. However, the current race’s closeness has prompted speculation about a potential shift in the state’s political landscape.

With just over a month to go until the election, the race is expected to remain fiercely contested. Cruz and Allred will face off in their first debate on October 15th, providing voters with a critical opportunity to compare their positions on key issues.
