Fri Sep 20 06:30:21 UTC 2024: ## Physics Wallah Reaches $2.8 Billion Valuation, Signals IPO Ambitions

**New Delhi, India** – Physics Wallah, the popular online education platform, has achieved a significant milestone, securing $210 million in funding at a valuation of $2.8 billion. This marks a substantial increase from its previous valuation of $1.1 billion, achieved in its first funding round two years ago.

The latest investment was led by Hornbill Capital Advisers and Lightspeed Venture Partners, with participation from existing investors GSV Ventures and WestBridge Capital. This round of funding suggests Physics Wallah is gearing up for an Initial Public Offering (IPO), with Hornbill Capital’s expertise in taking companies public seen as key to this endeavor.

“We are strengthening our finance team and our governance processes,” said Prateek Maheshwari, co-founder of Physics Wallah, highlighting their commitment to IPO readiness.

The move comes at a time when India’s edtech sector has been experiencing a downturn, with companies like Byju’s facing financial and legal troubles. However, Physics Wallah has managed to navigate the challenges, expanding its operations through acquisitions and a hybrid model that combines online and offline learning.

The company plans to use the fresh funding to expand its offline learning centers, known as Vidyapeeth, and for potential acquisitions. They also aim to further develop Curious Junior, a program for students in kindergarten to grade 10, and PW Skills, their skilling platform.

“PW has proven that only with the right student-led strategy, high quality content, affordability for a wider student population, and use of technology, it is possible,” said Manoj Thakur, founder and managing partner of Hornbill Capital.

While Physics Wallah has seen significant growth, it has also faced challenges in achieving profitability, primarily due to its offline ventures. However, the company expects to turn profitable next year as its offline business starts generating revenue.

The success of Physics Wallah’s IPO could pave the way for other profitable edtech companies to go public, signaling a potential revival in the sector.
