Fri Sep 20 19:53:48 UTC 2024: ## Kohli’s “Malinga” Comment Goes Viral as India Dominates Bangladesh in Chennai
**Chennai, India:** India extended their dominance over Bangladesh in the first Test match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, with a commanding lead of 308 runs after the second day’s play.
Virat Kohli, despite a brief stay at the crease, stole the show with a humorous exchange with Bangladesh’s star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan. Kohli, caught on camera and stump mics, quipped to Shakib that Hasan Mahmud was bowling yorkers like Lasith Malinga, saying, “Malinga bana hua, yorker pe yorker de raha hai (He is bowling yorkers like Lasith Malinga).” The comment quickly went viral on social media.
Earlier, Kohli was dismissed for 17 runs after being trapped LBW by off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz, despite replays showing a possible edge onto his pads.
However, it was R. Ashwin’s century in India’s first innings that provided the foundation for their dominance. Ashwin’s knock helped India to a total of 376, which was followed by a relentless bowling display by Jasprit Bumrah, who took 4-50 to dismiss Bangladesh for a meager 149.
India opted not to enforce the follow-on, choosing to bat again and reached 81/3 at stumps. Shubman Gill (33 not out) and Rishabh Pant (12 not out) are at the crease and will be looking to build a sizable lead on the third day.
Despite losing Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal cheaply, India’s progress was highlighted by Pant’s powerful six and Gill’s impressive back-foot play.
With the momentum firmly in their hands, India will be aiming to secure a convincing victory in the first Test and continue their dominance in the two-match series.
