Fri Sep 20 07:25:24 UTC 2024: ## Macy’s Gears Up for Holiday Season with 31,500 New Hires

**New York, NY** – Macy’s is gearing up for the holiday rush, announcing plans to hire over 31,500 full- and part-time employees across its stores and distribution centers. This move aims to ensure smooth operations during the busiest shopping season of the year.

“We are excited to welcome new team members who will play a crucial role in providing our customers with the best possible shopping experience,” said Danielle Kirgan, Macy’s, Inc. chief human resources and corporate affairs officer. “Whether they are looking for extra income or a new career in retail, we offer competitive pay and fulfilling opportunities.”

The seasonal hiring spree will span across Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, and Bluemercury stores, as well as distribution centers. The company is also hosting four nationwide hiring events on September 26th, October 24th, November 21st, and December 4th.

Despite the large number of hires, Macy’s recruitment this year is lower than in previous years, with 38,000 employees hired in 2023 and 41,000 in 2022. This trend aligns with a softer labor market and cautious consumer spending, as reported by Challenger, Gray & Christmas.

While Macy’s expects a busy holiday season, retailers overall are forecasting slower sales than in previous years. Persistent inflation is expected to impact consumer spending, leading to a less robust holiday shopping season.

Despite the economic headwinds, other companies are still actively hiring for the holidays. UPS, for example, plans to hire 125,000 seasonal workers to meet anticipated customer needs.

The holiday season typically accounts for half of annual revenue for US retailers, highlighting its crucial importance. While this year may bring slower sales, retailers like Macy’s are still actively preparing to serve customers and make the most of the upcoming holiday shopping season.
