**KOTA KINABALU, Sabah** – A 58-year-old man was tragically killed in Keningau, Sabah, after helping his neighbor lodge a police report about a fight with her husband. The victim, who has not been identified, succumbed to severe bleeding after being hacked in the arm by the neighbor’s husband late Thursday evening.
The incident occurred on Jalan Lingkudau after the victim and his wife accompanied the neighbor to the Keningau district police headquarters to report a domestic disturbance. While at the station, the victim received a call from his son informing him that the suspect had arrived at their home, enraged by the police report.
The victim returned home with his seven-year-old son, but encountered the suspect on the road. A heated altercation ensued, during which the suspect hacked the victim in the arm while the young child sat in the front seat. The suspect’s wife arrived at the scene shortly after, accompanied by a police patrol vehicle, and found the victim gravely injured. Despite efforts by medical personnel, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect, a man in his 40s, fled the scene and is currently being sought by police. Authorities believe the attack was motivated by jealousy, as the suspect was enraged by the victim’s involvement in assisting his wife.
Police have classified the case as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code. A meat cleaver, believed to be the murder weapon, was recovered from the scene. The victim’s body has been sent to the district hospital for a postmortem.
