ROME – Italy will send a second Samp-T anti-missile system to Ukraine, Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani announced on Thursday. The move comes as Italy continues to provide military support to Ukraine, while emphasizing the need to avoid direct conflict with Russia.

“We are sending a new Samp-T (anti-missile system) to protect hospitals, schools, universities… for this country that was attacked by Russia,” Tajani told Radio 24.

He stressed that while Italy is committed to supporting Ukraine, it is crucial to avoid escalating the conflict into a wider war. “Defending Ukraine does not mean bringing a world war… We are helping Ukraine and must reach a fair peace,” he added.

This latest shipment of defensive weaponry marks a significant step in Italy’s commitment to assisting Ukraine in its defense against the Russian invasion. The Samp-T system is designed to intercept and destroy incoming missiles, offering crucial protection for civilian infrastructure.

This development highlights the ongoing diplomatic efforts by Italy to balance support for Ukraine with the desire to prevent the conflict from escalating further. The provision of additional defensive systems underscores Italy’s commitment to assisting Ukraine in its defense, while the Foreign Minister’s emphasis on a peaceful resolution emphasizes the delicate balancing act required by European powers in navigating the conflict.
