Fri Sep 20 06:42:28 UTC 2024: ## Indian Startup Suchi Semicon to Enter Semiconductor Market with Legacy Packaging Focus

**Surat, India** – Suchi Semicon, a new entrant in India’s burgeoning semiconductor manufacturing sector, has announced plans to begin operations later this year, focusing initially on legacy packaging before transitioning to advanced packaging methods. The company, founded by Shetal Mehta, has already established its cleanroom facility in Surat, Gujarat, and is currently setting up remaining infrastructure. Equipment is expected to arrive in October, with production commencing by the end of November.

“We’ll start with legacy packages,” said Mehta. “India is a newborn in this field, and we carry the reputation of India with us. Starting with traditional packaging is a sensible business decision.”

The company chose Surat for its operations due to its rapid growth, clean environment, and developing semiconductor ecosystem. Mehta highlighted the availability of talent in the city, stating, “Surat aligns with our belief that the semiconductor ecosystem is being built in Gujarat.”

Suchi Semicon is also actively pursuing strategic partnerships with international firms to enhance its technology and market reach. “Partnership is something we’re aggressively looking for,” said Mehta. “We’re actively seeking a joint venture.”

While the company boasts a strong technical team with decades of experience, they recognize the value of collaborating with a technology partner to boost sales, reliability, and reputation. “Getting a technology partner is advantageous,” said Mehta. “We’re open to partners from the U.S., Taiwan, Singapore—anywhere—as long as they align with our vision of building an Indian OSAT company.”

The initial phases of Suchi Semicon’s operations will be self-funded, with the company planning five phases over the next three to five years. “We are not waiting for government subsidies to start,” said Mehta. “Probably in the second or third phase, we might go for government support. But initially, the company’s progress will be self-funded.”

Suchi Semicon’s entry into the semiconductor market is a significant step for India’s ambitious plans to become a global player in the industry. The company’s focus on legacy packaging and strategic partnerships reflects its pragmatic approach to building a successful business within a rapidly developing ecosystem.
