**Los Angeles, CA:** Actress Natasha Lyonne, known for her role in Netflix’s “Russian Doll,” revealed a surprising audition story at a recent screening and Q&A for her new film “His Three Daughters.” Lyonne admitted that she once auditioned for a lead role in the 1998 cult classic “Wild Things,” but ultimately failed to secure the part.
Lyonne, who described the character as a “tough chick with black eyeliner” who had been in juvie, followed the audition instructions to dress “like a Robert Palmer girl.” However, she quickly realized the directors were looking for something entirely different. “I was nailing it,” she said, “but I was definitely not getting that part. It was not what they were looking for.” The role eventually went to Neve Campbell, who, according to Lyonne, “clearly, she’s a wonderful actress and the film holds up.”
Lyonne’s experience, though disappointing, highlighted a common frustration among actors – the unpredictable nature of the audition process. Fellow cast members of “His Three Daughters,” including Carrie Coon, Elizabeth Olsen, and Jovan Adepo, also shared their thoughts on auditions.
Olsen, surprisingly, enjoys the audition process, stating, “I love auditioning. You get to go act for a day, you have something to focus on.” Coon, on the other hand, views it as a mutual audition, emphasizing the importance of choosing projects that align with her values and time constraints. “I got kids. I’m not wasting my time,” she stated.
Adepo, who comes from a football background, revealed his competitive approach to auditions, often preparing by listening to motivational speeches, including one by Mike Tyson, which he shared with the audience, much to their amusement.
Ultimately, the panel discussion offered a candid glimpse into the world of auditions, highlighting both the challenges and the unexpected opportunities that come with the process.
