**Orange County, CA** – Eight firefighters were injured Thursday in a serious highway crash involving an Orange County Fire Authority fire truck. The vehicle overturned on California State Route 241 just north of Portola Hills while returning a crew from a 12-hour shift fighting the Airport Fire.

According to Chief Brian Fennessy, a ladder in the road caused the truck to swerve, hit a guardrail, and overturn. One firefighter was airlifted by helicopter while others were transported by ambulance to local hospitals.

“All of our crews involved are going through a formal critical incident stress debriefing at our headquarters,” Fennessy said, highlighting the emotional impact of the incident on fellow firefighters. “It’s traumatic for them to see their brothers and sisters injured like that on the freeway.”

The extent of the firefighters’ injuries is currently unknown. The incident is under investigation.
