Fri Sep 20 19:53:35 UTC 2024: ## Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister’s Claim of Animal Fat in Tirupati Laddus Sparks Controversy

**TIRUPATI, INDIA** – A political storm is brewing in Andhra Pradesh after Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu claimed that animal fat was used in the preparation of sacred Tirupati temple laddus. This accusation has ignited a fierce battle of words between the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the opposition YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), further fueled by the Hindu right wing.

The controversy erupted after Naidu, during a celebration of the NDA government’s 100 days in office, alleged the presence of animal fat in the laddus, based on a report from the National Dairy Development Board (CALF). The report, however, remains inconclusive, stating only the possibility of adulteration and the need for further testing to confirm the presence of animal fat.

The YSRCP, led by Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, has vehemently condemned Naidu’s allegations, accusing him of playing “dirty politics” with the sanctity of the Tirumala shrine. YSRCP leaders have labeled the accusations as malicious and dangerous to the faith of millions of Hindus, demanding a thorough investigation.

TDP spokesperson B. Pattabhi defended the Chief Minister’s statement, citing previous complaints of adulteration and the report’s suggestion of animal fat as a possible adulterant. He argued that the mere possibility of beef tallow being present is enough to raise alarm and highlight Jagan Reddy’s supposed anti-Hindu sentiments.

The controversy has drawn attention from various political players, including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress. While the BJP has called for a thorough investigation, the Congress has pointed out the history of communal narratives surrounding the YSRCP leader’s faith, suggesting that the current controversy is part of a larger political strategy.

This incident has stirred deep religious sentiments and raised serious concerns about law and order, particularly with the upcoming elections. While the TDP claims that the state vigilance department is investigating the matter, political analysts are questioning the lack of transparency and the potential for further unrest if the issue is not addressed swiftly and responsibly.
