**Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (September 20, 2024)** – Chery has unveiled the first images of the refreshed Omoda 5, sporting a new design to maintain its appeal after two years on the market. The redesigned front end, drawing inspiration from the electric Omoda E5, features sleeker arrow-shaped LED daytime running lights connected by a black bar with prominent Omoda branding.
The revamped bumper now forms an X shape with the redesigned grille, abandoning the previous chrome-studded design for body-coloured squares. While the overall silhouette remains similar, the Omoda 5 benefits from a new wheel design and colour options. Notably, the trailing edge of the D-pillars are now painted in body colour, a unique design choice.
Mechanically, the Omoda 5 is expected to retain its 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine paired with a CVT. However, the GT variant, featuring a 1.6-litre engine and seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, will remain available in certain markets.
The facelift, which integrates the Omoda branding more prominently into the design, signifies the brand’s ambition for global expansion. Already established in Europe and other markets, Omoda aims to follow in the footsteps of the upmarket Jaecoo brand.
This expansion will also be seen in Malaysia, where Omoda Malaysia recently teased the larger C9 model. Both Omoda and Jaecoo are expected to share showrooms and service centres, while the Omoda 5 and E5 will continue to be sold under the Chery brand.
