**Etawah, India:** A 30-year-old man, Bablu Diwakar, has been arrested for the murder of his newborn daughter in Etawah, Uttar Pradesh. The incident, which occurred on Sunday, was triggered by Diwakar’s anger and frustration over the birth of his fourth daughter, as he had hoped for a son.
According to police, Diwakar was inebriated when he snatched the one-month-old infant from his wife’s lap and slammed her to the ground. The baby sustained severe injuries and succumbed to them on Wednesday.
Diwakar had two daughters with his first wife, who passed away. After remarrying, his first child with his second wife was also a daughter. This latest birth, his fourth daughter, proved to be the breaking point for Diwakar, who expressed his disappointment openly.
Following a complaint filed by his wife Deepu, Diwakar was arrested and charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder under Section 105 of the Indian Penal Code. He was sent to jail on Thursday. The incident has shocked the community and highlighted the issue of gender bias in parts of India.
