Fri Sep 20 08:19:00 UTC 2024: ## Arsenal Women’s Super League Season Kicks Off with New Faces and Rule Changes

**London, January 18, 2024:** The Women’s Super League season is back, and Arsenal fans are eager to see new signings Rosa Kafaji, Mariona Caldentey, and Daphne van Domselaar in action. The Gunners face Manchester City this Sunday at Emirates Stadium.

But before the action begins, there are several notable changes throughout the league, including new managers, players, and rule modifications.

**Managerial Carousel:**

* Emma Hayes’ departure from Chelsea to coach the US women’s national team brought Sonia Bompastor to the Blues.
* Former Bayer Leverkusen manager Robert de Pauw takes over at Aston Villa, while Brighton welcomes Dario Vidosic.
* Leicester City has appointed Amandine Miquel, previously of Stade de Reims Feminines.

**Player Movements:**

* Former Liverpool midfielder Missy Bo Kearns has joined Aston Villa.
* Lioness Fran Kirby has moved from Chelsea to Brighton.
* Chelsea has bolstered their defense with the addition of Lucy Bronze.
* Former Gunner Vivianne Miedema will look to bolster Manchester City’s attack.

**Rule Changes:**

* A new handball rule for 2024/25 will see players cautioned instead of red-carded for handballs that unintentionally make them bigger, but without deliberate movement of the hand/arm to the ball.
* Penalties will no longer be affected by players encroaching on the box, as long as their position doesn’t impact the kick.
* Time added for goals, celebrations, substitutions, injuries, penalties, and red cards will be adjusted, with an additional 30 seconds added for any event exceeding 30 seconds.
* The use of the multiball system will be implemented throughout matches.

**New Season, New Challenges:**

Newly promoted Crystal Palace, under manager Laura Kaminski, will make their WSL debut. Their first match is against Mangata Pay UK Stadium in Borehamwood on January 19th. Arsenal’s match against Palace will take place on March 30th at Selhurst Park.

With a mix of fresh faces, tactical adjustments, and rule changes, the 2024/25 Women’s Super League season promises to be an exciting one.
