Fri Sep 20 16:51:37 UTC 2024: ## Australian Opener Travis Head Smashes Second-Highest ODI Score Against England
Nottingham, UK: Australian opener Travis Head has etched his name in the record books after smashing the second highest score by an Australian batter against England in ODIs. Head achieved this feat during the first ODI of the series held at Nottingham, smashing an unbeaten 154* off 129 balls with an impressive strike rate of 119.38. His innings included a whopping 20 fours and 5 sixes.
Head’s knock fell just short of Shane Watson’s record of 161* achieved in 2011. However, Head’s 20 boundaries placed him third on the list of most boundaries hit by an Australian batter in an ODI innings, behind Glenn Maxwell and David Warner.
Australia chased down a target of 316 runs in a dominant display, winning the match by seven wickets in just 44 overs. England, despite a strong start with half-centuries from Ben Duckett and Will Jacks, were ultimately bundled out for 315. Australia’s bowling attack proved effective, with Adam Zampa and Marnus Labuschagne taking three wickets each.
Head’s all-round performance, including two wickets, earned him the ‘Player of the Match’ award, solidifying his position as the key figure in Australia’s 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
