**Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh:** A controversy surrounding the alleged adulteration of the famed Tirupati laddu, a sacred offering distributed at the Sri Venkateshwara temple, has sparked outrage and calls for a thorough investigation.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, in a social media post, expressed deep concern over reports of animal fat being used in the preparation of the laddu, a symbolic offering revered by millions across the globe. He urged authorities to protect the sanctity of religious spaces and demanded a full investigation into the matter.

The controversy erupted after Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu accused the previous YSRCP-led administration of failing to maintain quality standards, leading to the use of adulterated ghee in the laddus. Naidu alleged that lab tests had confirmed the presence of lard (pig fat) and other impurities in the ghee supplied by a contractor.

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), the temple’s governing body, confirmed the findings of the lab reports and has halted supplies from the implicated contractor, initiating a blacklisting process and imposing penalties.

The allegations have drawn national attention, with Union Health Minister J P Nadda requesting a detailed report from the Andhra Pradesh government and Union Food Minister Pralhad Joshi calling for a full investigation.

The YSRCP has denied any wrongdoing, accusing Naidu of using the controversy to divert attention from his administration’s shortcomings.

Meanwhile, AR Dairy, one of the companies accused of supplying adulterated ghee, has defended the quality of its product, claiming that all ghee supplied to the temple had been certified by accredited labs.

The Congress party, through its media and publicity head Pawan Khera, stated that a full-fledged inquiry must be conducted if the claims of desecration are true. However, they warned that those playing with the faith of millions of devotees would face serious consequences if the claims are found to be false or motivated.
