**Lynchburg, VA -** The Lynchburg Hornets are off to a strong start to the 2024-25 athletic season, with a packed weekend of home events and several exciting road contests ahead.

**Field Hockey:** The No. 12 ranked Hornets split their weekend in Pennsylvania, defeating No. 18 Ursinus in a shootout but falling to No. 22 Bryn Mawr. Freshman forward Maddie Schuchter shone with a hat-trick and an assist against Ursinus. Next up, they travel back to Pennsylvania to face No. 9 York and Susquehanna.

**Volleyball:** The Hornets finished the Hill City Classic with a 2-2 record, securing victories over LaGrange and NC Wesleyan. They faced a tough test against Bridgewater on the road, falling in four sets despite a dominant second set win. Up next, they have ODAC matches against Shenandoah and Randolph.

**Men’s Soccer:** The Hornets secured their first win of the season with a commanding 3-0 victory over William Peace. Freshman Sean DeLorenzo bagged his first collegiate goal, and fifth-year midfielder Zach Whelan recorded his second assist of the season. They host Catholic this Saturday on Shellenberger Field.

**Women’s Soccer:** The Hornets opened their home season with a resounding 3-0 win against Marymount. They have a week off before facing Emory at a neutral site and then Mary Washington.

**Cross Country:** The Hornets are set for a split-squad weekend, with some competing in the Adidas XC Challenge in Cary, NC and others racing in the John McNichols Invite in Terre Haute, IN. This will be their first true test of the season.

**Women’s Tennis:** The Hornets finished third at the Randolph Invite with a strong 8-7 record. They will next compete in the ITA Regional.

**Equestrian:** The three-time defending NCEA champions are ready for their first competition of the season at the IHSA Tournament of Champions in Westerville, Ohio. They will then host the College of Charleston and Centenary University for dual meets.
