Kochi: Renowned Malayalam actress Kaviyoor Ponnamma (79) breathed her last on [date] at a private hospital in Kochi. She was battling age-related ailments for the past few days.
Born on September 10, 1945, in Kaviyoor, Pathanamthitta district, Ponnamma began her career in theatre before making her cinematic debut in 1962 with “Sree Rama Pattabhishekam.” She last appeared in the 2021 film “Aanum Pennum.”
The veteran actress won numerous accolades, including four Kerala State Film Awards for Best Supporting Actress. She was married to late film producer Maniswami. Her only daughter, Bindu, resides in the United States with her son-in-law, Venkitaraman, who is a professor at the University of Michigan.
Ponnamma’s demise is a huge loss for the Malayalam film industry. Her contributions to cinema and her powerful performances will be remembered for years to come.
