Thu Sep 19 12:08:18 UTC 2024: ## Jaiswal Shines as India Stumbles in First Test Against Bangladesh

**Chennai, India:** Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his impressive Test debut season, anchoring India’s batting line in the first Test against Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Despite a string of wickets falling around him, Jaiswal’s composed half-century (56 off 118 balls) kept India afloat on Day 1.

The young left-hander, who has already reached the milestone of 1000 Test runs in just nine matches, showcased his resilience on a pitch offering assistance to the seamers. While other Indian batsmen succumbed to lapses in concentration, Jaiswal displayed a mature approach, hitting nine boundaries in his innings.

In contrast, Shubman Gill, considered a future leader of the Indian team, struggled once again, being dismissed for a duck. His inability to translate his potential into consistent Test performances remains a concern, averaging only 35 in his 25 Test appearances.

The Indian batting display was perplexing, as the pitch and bowling posed only sporadic challenges. The dismissal of Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant, who looked promising in the first session, highlighted the lack of focus in the middle order.

Despite the struggles, Ravindra Jadeja (7) and Ravichandran Ashwin (21) managed to stem the tide towards the end of the day, leaving India at 144 for six at tea.

The first Test against Bangladesh is a crucial encounter for India, who will be looking to bounce back from their recent series loss to Australia. Jaiswal’s consistent performance offers a glimmer of hope, while the team management will need to address the inconsistency and lack of focus displayed by the other batsmen.
