Thu Sep 19 17:09:16 UTC 2024: ## Modi Rallies for BJP in J&K, Vows Statehood Restoration, Attacks Opponents
**Srinagar, September 19, 2024:** Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing a massive rally in Srinagar ahead of the second phase of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, promised to restore Statehood to the region and launched a scathing attack on his opponents. He praised voters for the high turnout in the first phase, highlighting it as a sign of the people’s desire for change and progress.
“J&K is witnessing a festival of democracy,” Modi said, referencing the record voter turnout, particularly in Kishtwar, Doda, Ramban and Kulgam. He attributed the positive atmosphere to the BJP’s commitment to peace and prosperity, contrasting it with the “instability” caused by the Congress, National Conference (NC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the past three decades.
Modi reiterated the BJP’s promise to restore Statehood, a key election issue. “It’s the BJP that will fulfill this commitment,” he said, urging people to vote for the party in record numbers on September 25th.
He highlighted the positive changes in Kashmir under the BJP’s rule, citing the return of normalcy, improved security, and increased tourism. He also criticized the NC and PDP for the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley, accusing them of shielding those who targeted minorities.
Targeting the Congress, NC and PDP leadership, Modi labeled them as “three families” who have only sought to “loot” the people of J&K, fueling fear and disruption. He accused them of failing the youth and obstructing democratic processes like Panchayat elections.
Modi pledged to continue working for a “terror-free J&K,” creating local employment opportunities and bringing development projects like AIIMS and IITs. He highlighted initiatives like increased connectivity through railways and the flourishing tourism sector as evidence of progress.
In a separate rally in Jammu’s Katra, Modi accused the Congress, PDP and NC of following “Pakistan’s agenda” in J&K. He pointed to Pakistani Defence Minister Khawaja Asif’s endorsement of the NC-Congress alliance and their stance on Article 370 and 35A, as proof of their “pro-Pakistan” agenda. He stated that the BJP will ensure the permanent abrogation of these articles.
The Prime Minister also expressed condolences to the family of Shafi Pandit, the first IAS officer from Kashmir, who passed away on Wednesday.
Modi’s campaign promises and attacks on the opposition come as the second phase of J&K assembly elections is set to take place on September 25th. The results are expected to be a key indicator of the BJP’s national strength and its ability to consolidate its position in the region.
