Thu Sep 19 12:08:20 UTC 2024: ## Gill’s Inconsistency Continues with Duck in First Test Against Bangladesh
Shubman Gill’s inconsistent form in Test cricket continued on Day 1 of the first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai, where he was dismissed for a duck, his fifth in Test cricket.
This latest failure comes after a promising run in the second half of the England Test series earlier this year, where he scored four fifties and a century. Gill, at just 25 years old, joins an unwanted list of batters with three or more ducks in Test cricket in 2024.
This duck was Gill’s third of the calendar year, making him the only top-seven batter along with Pakistan’s Abdullah Shafique to achieve this unwanted feat.
Gill’s struggles also add to his growing list of ducks at home in Test cricket. He is now the sixth Indian batter to register three or more ducks in a home Test series in a calendar year.
Furthermore, only Cheteshwar Pujara and Dilip Vengsarkar have scored more ducks batting at No. 3 for India in home Tests than Gill, who currently sits at three ducks.
Gill’s inconsistency will be a concern for India as they look to start the year strongly, but he will have opportunities to regain form in the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh.
