**Las Vegas, Nevada** – A night of thrilling fights and historical moments unfolded on the sixth episode of season eight of Dana White’s Contender Series, held at the UFC APEX. Four out of five winners were awarded contracts to join the UFC, including Elijah Smith, son of former two-time “The Ultimate Fighter” contestant Gilbert Smith.
This marks only the second father-son duo in UFC history, following the footsteps of UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture and his son Ryan Couture.
Elijah Smith, a 22-year-old fighter, secured his UFC spot with a unanimous decision victory against Aaron Tau. While Smith dominated the first two rounds, Tau mounted a strong comeback in the third, resulting in a thrilling back-and-forth exchange.
The heavyweight division witnessed a devastating knockout performance by Tallison Teixeira. The 24-year-old giant showcased his power and precision, delivering a knockout blow to Arthur Lopes in the first round, solidifying his place in the UFC.
Ateba Gautier, a 22-year-old fighter, earned his UFC contract with a second-round TKO victory over Yura Naito. Gautier’s speed and power proved too much for Naito, who was ultimately overwhelmed by a barrage of punches.
Finally, in a comeback performance, Ahmad Hassanzada secured his UFC spot after an impressive submission victory over Dylan Mantello. After falling behind in the early rounds, Hassanzada rallied in the third, securing a rear-naked choke to earn a submission victory and a UFC contract.
The only fighter who did not receive a contract was Benjamin Bennett, who won a split decision against Joey Hart. Despite demonstrating strong wrestling skills and control, Bennett’s performance did not impress Dana White enough to secure a UFC spot.
This episode of Contender Series delivered exciting battles and thrilling finishes, ultimately adding four new promising fighters to the UFC roster. With a mix of seasoned talent and fresh faces, the future of the UFC looks bright.
